Allowing Tipping on Invoices is a great way to give your clients a way to show you their appreciation when paying an Invoice!
How to set up Tipping
Tips will be enabled on new Invoices by default, however, if you start with a Template that has Tipping turned off, it's very easy to turn on!
To do this, scroll to the very bottom of the invoice settings and then toggle ON Enable Tipping.
From here, you can choose to allow clients to tip on every payment installment or only on the final payment installment.
π NOTE: If you only have one Invoice installment, the option to tip on all or just the last installment will not make a difference.
How does Tipping look to my clients?
When enabled, clients will see the option to tip in the payment window.
They will see the default options to tip: 5%, 10%, 15%, Custom Tip, or No Tip. Selecting a tip option is not required to submit the payment. If no option is selected, the default selection will be No Tip.
Tipping is available via Card or ACH payment and the maximum tip amount is 300% of the base payment (ex: On a $100 Invoice, the max tip amount is $300).
How to turn off Tipping
If you are creating a new invoice from scratch or creating an Invoice from a Template that has Tipping enabled, you can disable Tipping by scrolling to the bottom of the Invoice Settings and toggle Enable Tipping OFF:
F.A.Q.
Q: When Tipping was released was it enabled on previous Invoices?
A: No, as tipping is an optional feature, we did not enable it on previously sent invoices. However, you can now go to each past invoice and enable it by editing the active Invoice.
Q: How much can my client tip?
A: When clients get to the Tipping section they will see these default tip options: 5%, 10%, 15%, Custom Tip, or No Tip. If they select Custom Tip, they can enter any amount up to 300% of the base payment amount. This means on a $100 payment, they can tip up to $300.
Q: Are clients required to tip if I have Tipping enabled?
A: Not at all! In fact clients do not need to select anything in the tip section of the payment window in order to submit payment. If they do select a tip option and then change their mind before submitting payment, they can select the No Tip option. Tipping is 100% optional for your clients.
Q: Are there fees on Tips?
A: Processing Fees are calculated on the total amount processed, meaning there is still a flat 2.5% processing fee on any tips. Clients paying via Card will also see the convenience fee calculated based on the payment total (including tips); however, will continue to not pay anything extra while paying via ACH.
Q: Can I turn off Tipping?
A: Totally! Tipping is an optional feature on Invoices. If you do not want to give clients the option to Tip when paying their Invoice, simply toggle the option OFF at the bottom of the Invoice. To avoid doing this every time you create an invoice, we recommend saving Invoice Templates that have this option turned off π
